Hello everyone, how are you doing this week? So far so good? Are you really doing okay? How is your neck? Are you suffering from a little pain cause by the whiplash that seems to be making you switch your head back and forth among all the weeks’ chaos, drama, and craziness? Maybe you can’t seem to keep your head on straight with all the nonsense that creeps up and slaps you? Do you feel like you need to hire someone who can keep up with all the specific things you need to be informed about? Maybe like a “News Czar?” Not to be confused with a “Street Czar” like they have up in Seattle Washington (https://komonews.com/news/local/new-city-contract-with-seattle-street-czar-under-scrutiny). A “street czar” is a person who has a particular genius in a particular area, according the their city administration. By the way, their “Street Czar” was a well known pimp before landing this new job with the city, so I guess he has the credentials for the gig. He’s also getting paid $150,000 dollars yearly for this job. Where do I sign up for that kind of job?

Of course, what else would you expect from one of the most weird cities in America. Well, it could be worse, or maybe it will be, at this point I really don’t know because it’s getting too easy to lose count of all the tactics used by those who want to distract us from what we really should be focusing on. It’s not easy, but I do try to keep aware of the things that are lying under the cloud or mushroom head. We’ll talk much more in detail about mushrooms later. This week has been like the media is trying to treat us all like mushrooms: feeding us manure and keeping us in the dark of what really needs to be discussed, but no, they insisted on making COVID-19 deaths and cases their main political weapon and how this current administration is at fault for everything.

Here’s something that I want to cover before we dive into the main course in the food for thought arena. First off, the internet is back in the sights of the Department of Justice. The DOJ dropped a proposed “recalibration” of one of the most important laws governing the US Internet into Congress’s lap and urged legislators to act to remove a liability protection on which nearly every website and app currently relies (https://www.justice.gov/file/1319331/download). “Section 230” is the nickname for a very short part of the law under which Internet companies have been regulated since 1996. The key part of § 230 of the Communications Decency Act currently reads: “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.” Under the proposed new bill legislation also adds several parts to be removed from the law. The first is a “bad Samaritan”, exempting a platform from qualifying for section 230 immunity if it “acted purposefully with the conscious object to promote, solicit, or facilitate material or activity… that the service provider knew or had reason to believe would violate Federal criminal law.” They also talked about “Criminal material” that would require platforms to remove or restrict access to that material and report it to law enforcement as soon as they received notice of it—a mechanism seemingly inspired by the way copyright takedown requests work today. Last but not least, the phrase “judicial decisions” was mentioned. If a court rules that any content posted to a service is “Defamatory under state law or unlawful in any respect,” platforms would have to remove that content as well. Social Media giants like Facebook and Twitter are already nervous about that last part. This will be very huge impact if this passes and it will affect Social Media platforms in a big way.

A grand jury has indicted a fired Kentucky police officer on criminal charges in the Breonna Taylor case, but not for her death. Officer Brett Hankison was charged yesterday with three counts of wanton endangerment. The FBI is still investigating potential violations of federal law in connection with the raid at Taylor’s home on March 13 (https://onenewsnow.com/ap/united-states/louisville-police-officer-shot-amid-breonna-taylor-protests). Ben Crump, a lawyer for the family of Breonna Taylor, denounced the decision as “outrageous and offensive,” and protesters shouting, “No justice, no peace!” immediately marched through the streets. As I expected, riots broke out not just  in Louisville, Kentucky, but also around the nation after a grand jury declined to charge police officers in the death of Breonna Taylor. Governor Andy Beshear said he authorized a limited deployment of the National Guard. Governor Beshear also urged the state attorney general to post online all the evidence that could be released without affecting the charges filed. Hours after a Kentucky grand jury brought no charges against Louisville police for the young lady’s death and protesters took to the streets, authorities said two officers were shot and wounded last night during the demonstrations expressing anger over the killings of Black people at the hands of police (https://news.yahoo.com/grand-jury-present-report-breonna-152536781.html). Interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said a suspect was in custody but did not offer details about whether that person was participating in the demonstrations. He says both officers are expected to recover, and one required surgery. Tonight, I ask that you please keep the officers, their families as well as the family of Breonna Taylor in your prayers because this is just one more fire during an already hot and bothered year.

As we talked about before on “Bravo Sierra with Big John” back in June (https://thebigjohnshow.com/2020/06/04/united-on-division/), Breonna Taylor was an emergency medical worker who was shot multiple times by white officers who entered her home on a no-knock warrant during a narcotics investigation. However, the State Attorney General said evidence revealed during the investigation showed the officers announced themselves before entering. The warrant used to search her home was connected to a suspect who did not live there, and no drugs were found inside. But State Attorney General, who is the state’s first Black attorney general, said the officers acted in self-defense after Breonna’s boyfriend fired at them first. He added that Officer Hankison and the two other officers who entered Breonna Taylor’s apartment announced themselves before entering and so did not execute the warrant as “no knock,” according to the investigation, but since then, the city has since banned such warrants. He also said that an FBI crime lab determined that officer Cosgrove fired the bullet that killed Breonna Taylor. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, opened fire when police burst in, hitting officer Mattingly. The boyfriend told police he heard knocking, but didn’t know who was coming in and fired in self-defense. Officer Hankison was fired on June 23. A termination letter sent by interim Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said he had violated procedures by showing “extreme indifference to the value of human life” when he “wantonly and blindly” fired his weapon.

Since then, Officers Mattingly, Cosgrove and the detective who sought the warrant, Joshua Jaynes, were placed administrative reassignment. Although last week, the city settled a lawsuit against the three officers brought by Breonna Taylor’s mother, agreeing to pay her $12 million and enact police reforms. Something else I find interesting that came from yesterday’s press conference was that the Kentucky Attorney General warned people in the state not to listen to celebrities and influencers upset by a grand jury’s decision to bring no murder charges against Louisville police officers for the death of Breonna Taylor (https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/kentucky-ag-daniel-cameron-celebrities-influencers-breonna-taylor). “There will be celebrities, influencers and activists who having never lived in Kentucky will try to tell us how to feel, suggesting they understand the facts of this case, that they know our community and the Commonwealth better than we do, but they don’t,” the Attorney General said. Shortly after the announcement came from the grand jury, several celebrities took to social media to voice their outrage over the decision.

As you may know, social media is a mega harping tool that gives people the platform to announce their displeasure of current events, from both no-named individuals looking for their five seconds of fame to those obscenely rich folks who are so out of touch with reality giving advice on how we should live from their point of view. Those of us in the middle are left torn apart because one side tells us what they call the facts of life while the other claims to give us the truth. Either way, you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t listen to them. Personally, I choose my own methods of research and thought process to determine the correct answers before opening my mouth. I may be a little slower to react to current events, but I always lean on real evidence before making my decisions. I will say this, I don’t know what all happened because I wasn’t there, but if I had to solely depend on the Mainstream Media for my information, I would probably be quick to strike back against the police and defend Black Lives Matter just like actor George Clooney (https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54277220), actress Kerry Washington, and so many others who jumped on Social Media. Granted, I think they all got the right to have and share their opinion, but the difference is they have influence over their followers and fans which can manipulate their emotions one way or the other. As in most cases that we’ve seen this past Summer, it can be very destructive and deadly.

In my humble opinion, the celebrities who claim to care about people need to be the ones who step out in the name of peace and love, not justice and injustice. I say this because we are already divided and it’s like pouring salt on a gushing, bloody wound each day these people don’t use their influence to bring us together. Starting a charity to feed the homeless and hungry is one thing, but when it comes for food for thought, there seem to be a plague of starvation that has no end. Folks like George Clooney has the ears of certain world governments in which he has helped. Why can’t he contact some of those folks to help ease tensions that are cause by these so-called “protesters” in other parts of the world? Has he even tried? I’m not picking on him or trying to start a fight, I’m just wondering because I know he has helped so many people before. Why can’t he apply that same logic now? Even here in the United States? The Black Lives Matter movement is demonstrating and rioting in Britain (https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54277992) and Australia (https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/cricket/ponting-says-black-lives-matter-most-important-issue-in-society/news-story/495e18f1a803cee3ef68ab16926bd7d9).

With the way 2020 is moving along, I suppose it seems fitting that in one town in Michigan decided to let everyone start feeling better via natural chemical enhancements. No, I’m not talking about Marijuana. Although I knew people who do that and I’m not saying they are wrong. The city of Ann Arbor, Michigan has passed a resolution that plans to decriminalize psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms (https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/ann-arbor-city-council-takes-up-resolution-decriminalizing-magic-mushrooms). The group lobbying for their decriminalization has been lobbying members of the city council for months. Decriminalize Nature Ann Arbor, or DNA2, has argued psychedelic substances like shrooms offer several benefits for those in need of medical assistance. One of the city councilmembers said “Decriminalization of naturally occurring medicines is necessary for progress. We can no longer turn a blind eye towards the wisdom of indigenous peoples, and the bounty the earth provides. I have been moved by the testimonies of those who have found profound relief from the use of entheogenic plants”. Because Michigan legalized medical marijuana in November, 2008, becoming the 13th state in America (https://potguide.com/michigan/marijuana-laws/), many believe magic mushrooms could be the next natural substance to be legalized for medical purposes. Decriminalizing the drug would lower it on the police department’s priority list among substances they investigate and arrest individuals for.

That’s not the only place in the United States that is considering a similar resolution. While they can’t technically make it legalized, they can just lower the punishment to just a misdemeanor, or no more than the cost of a jaywalking ticket. However, the study of psychedelic drugs is seeing a resurgence and the University of California at Berkeley is going to take part, university officials said last week (https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/09/18/berkeley-uc-berkeley-to-take-part-in-resurgence-of-research-of-psychedelic-drugs/). The university has launched the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics to work with research being done at Johns Hopkins University and Imperial College London. The drugs may be able to give people a different perspective on their mental illness, such as major depression, which involves low self-esteem and low motivation. The second reason they are doing this is because psychedelics may be able to help us as humans gain a better understanding of the human mind and brain and a better understanding of ourselves. Third reason for this research they claim is that psychedelic drugs can allow people to have very powerful mystical and spiritual experiences. At UC Berkeley, those experiences will be compared with non-psychedelic experiences. Research into psychedelics at UC Berkeley will. Researchers claim they will be very careful as they work with people and will educate the public about the research.

It’s no secret that several agencies regulate and monitor the research into psychedelics including the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, various state agencies as well as as a network of universities. Researchers claim they will be following the guidelines set forth by state and federal agencies, but that won’t stop the folks who want to make their own psychedelic drugs in storage sheds, makeshift labs, rural fields, and in their own homes. Yeah, some will do it for their own recreational purposes, but only a small fraction while most will do it for the money. Believe me when I say that there is a big market for psychedelic drugs of any kind. Believe me, it already is in some schools. I remember when I was in highschool, there was this one time a friend of mine tried shrooms and he was tripping all day. He had several classes with some friends of mine and we all watched him. Luckily, he didn’t get caught by the teachers, but we all gave him hell for doing it after he came down.

Speaking of schools, COVID-19, and a bunch of manure, figuratively speaking of course on the latter, many schools across the country and back in session, some strictly virtual. It’s funny that a little think like a Presidential banner / sign can set off or “trigger” a teacher to go full on “Karen” on a student because he seems to have a different opinion on his future. A student at Southridge High School in Kennewick, Washington claimed to get kicked off a Zoom online class by a teacher because of a Trump flag that was displayed on a bedroom wall (https://keprtv.com/news/local/southridge-student-says-he-was-kicked-off-zoom-class-for-displaying-trump-flag). The flag reads “Trump 2020 No More Bulls—.” According to the parents, their student was attending an English sports and literature class when the incident occurred. The parents said they understand that there is profanity on the flag; however, they believe their child should be allowed to hang the flag in a bedroom. The parents said the teacher allegedly warned the student through the chat function of the Zoom meeting but the child did not see the message from the instructor. The student’s parents said their child was then removed from class without further warning. The teacher allegedly asked the student if the messages were seen prior to removal from the class and the student said they were not. Parents of the student also say that their child has been told to remove a Trump hat during a different Zoom class. The parents worried about their student’s future in the class. A spokesperson for the Kennewick School District responded with the statement: “We are aware of the alleged situation. The school administrators are in the process of doing their due diligence by conducting an investigation with staff and students to get all the facts.”

Another case from the “Karen” files involves a nine-year-old 4th grader in Arlington, Massachusetts that was sent home from his school because he was sneezing (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2020/09/22/arlington-student-sent-home-from-school-after-sneezing/). The fourth grade student was told he could not to return until he gets a negative Covid-19 test. The boy said sneezed two times then the teacher told me to go to the nurse. He said felt fine, but those sneezes sent him to the nurse’s office where he had to wait for his dad to pick him up. The next morning, the boy’s father got a call from the school nurse that caught him by surprise. The dad said his son was Okay when he left for school and also had no symptoms when he picked him up. Now he says his son needs to take a Covid-19 test to be allowed back. So he reached out to the media to let them know what was going on and even took his son’s temperature in front of the local tv news camera to show he doesn’t have a fever. The father said they will get a test, and hopefully have the results quickly so his son can get back to school. The school said in a statement: “A student at Bishop Elementary School was sent home early today after he displayed COVID-19 related symptoms. This decision was made both out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with district protocols related to COVID-19. This isolated incident is not indicative of any need for wider concern of COVID-19 exposure. Per district protocols, the student will either have to produce a negative COVID-19 test, written documentation from a health care provider stating it is an alternative illness or be symptom free for 10 days following the start of the symptoms.” I can only imagine how annoying this is for the family, the father had to miss work because he couldn’t leave his son at home alone and his son couldn’t go to school. Policies like this tied to knee-jerk reactions without logical thinking is going to keep not only this country, but our children’s future in jeopardy and it needs to stop.

While I’m on the topic of children and things that need to stop, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to stop the biggest thrill for most children on Halloween from happening here in the United States. Yes, that’s right, the same agency that can’t make up its mind about if COVID-19 is spreadable through air or not (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/09/21/covid-19-cdc-updates-then-backs-off-guidance-airborne-spread/5854419002/) is recommending that we avoid trick-or-treating this year (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html#halloween). To be fair, they are saying that “If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters.” I understand that is “safe”, but they say to avoid these higher risk activities to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19:

  • Participating in traditional trick-or-treating where treats are handed to children who go door to door
  • Having trunk-or-treat where treats are handed out from trunks of cars lined up in large parking lots
  • Attending crowded costume parties held indoors
  • Going to an indoor haunted house where people may be crowded together and screaming
  • Going on hayrides or tractor rides with people who are not in your household
  • Using alcohol or drugs, which can cloud judgement and increase risky behaviors
  • Traveling to a rural fall festival that is not in your community if you live in an area with community spread of COVID-19

Honestly, I don’t see any kid willingly giving up participating in the traditional form of trick-or-treating. The CDC is also advising to avoid participating in “Día de los Muertos”  (https://www.history.com/topics/halloween/day-of-the-dead) also known as “The Day of the Dead”. (el Día de los Muertos), is a Mexican holiday with blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. The holiday is celebrated each year from October 31- November 2. While October 31 is Halloween, November 1 is “el Dia de los Inocentes,” or the day of the children, and All Saints Day. November 2 is All Souls Day or the Day of the Dead. According to tradition, the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31 and the spirits of children can rejoin their families for 24 hours. The spirits of adults can do the same on November 2. During which time (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html#mexican-day-dead), the CDC suggests to Avoid the following activities to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19:

  • Attending large indoor celebrations with singing or chanting
  • Participating in crowded indoor gatherings or events
  • Having a large dinner party with people from different households coming from different geographic locations
  • Using alcohol or drugs, which can cloud judgement and increase risky behaviors

So yeah, this Halloween is going to suck if we listen to the CDC verbatim. And guess what folks, it’s not going to get better for Thanksgiving either, nor will it be by Christmas. I’m not even looking at New Year’s Eve yet. Nope, for Thanksgiving, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says Thanksgiving is a time when many families travel long distances to celebrate together (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html#thanksgiving). They also say that travel increases the chance of getting and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. So it would be best to just stay home to protect yourself and others. People should avoid doing the following higher risk activities to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19:

  • Going shopping in crowded stores just before, on, or after Thanksgiving (buzzkill for Black Friday shopping, right?)
  • Participating or being a spectator at a crowded race
  • Attending crowded parades
  • Using alcohol or drugs, which can cloud judgement and increase risky behaviors
  • Attending large indoor gatherings with people from outside of your household

Well, if we do that, it’s going to be a very depressing Thanksgiving and the rest of the Holiday Season. Remember when we covered suicide and depression on Bravo Sierra a couple of weeks back (https://thebigjohnshow.com/2020/09/10/suicide-dissolution/)? Yeah, get ready for it. I guess it’s a good thing that the United States Congress approved the new suicide hotline number, 988, but unfortunately, it will take no more than two years for it to be working nationwide. A bill to designate 988 as the three-digit telephone number for the national suicide hotline is headed to President Trump for signature. The new number is meant to be easier to remember than the current number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 800-273-8255. The Federal Communications Commission already went through its own process to designate 988 as the number for the national crisis line. Once signed, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/BILLS-116s2661enr/pdf/BILLS-116s2661enr.pdf) will designate 988 as the three-digit dialing number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The act establishes rules that all telephone service providers to direct 988 calls to the Lifeline by July 16, 2022. The legislation will also enable states to provide resources to the mental health crisis line, as well as established specialized services for vulnerable populations, such as LGBTQ youth, minorities, veterans, and those in rural areas.

To be honest, the past seven days has been one of the busiest I’ve seen in the news, not including the main discussions of the Election and Covid-19. One thing I want to ask before I end it here, please continue to pray for our country, our first responders, police and fire departments, as well as our state militias because they are caught in the middle of all this. Please pray for the families of those involved, for the people who are still struggling from the recent hurricanes and tropical storms as well as the fires out west. As we head into Fall, what is supposed to be one of the most festive seasons of the year, it is also the most depressing times. I invite, no yet, I challenge you to turn off the TV news, put down the newspapers and magazines, turn down the radio news, and focus on yourself. Regenerate those positive feelings and vibes you need in your life. Come up with a game night with your family and friends. Volunteer and be the hope you want to see and need in your life if you need it. Become a beacon of light and let love and peace shine from you to those around you. Show compassion and maybe you will get a little grace in return from our heavenly father. People need it right now, more than anything.

Just a reminder that we have our monthly chat tonight at 8pm, immediately following “Bravo Sierra with Big John” on the TBJS Radio Network. Tonights topics include:

  • Should we move our chats to chat.thebigjohnshow.com or keep them where at our usual place? (It is possible to make a private room for only partners if we do move it.)
  • Should we change the day or time of our Virtual Conference’s since Covid-19 restrictions are still happening across different parts of the country? (I know we talked about it before, but people’s schedules may have changed.)
  • Updates on our items at shop.thebigjohnshow.com
  • Possible new feature ideas for partners.

We’re looking forward to talking with you tonight!

Greetings and salutations, my good friends, neighbors, and country men and women. How in the hell are you? How are you doing? I mean really, how are you doing? Are you feeling alright? Are your spirits up and vibrant or are you feeling weak and exhausted? There isn’t no shame or nothing to be embarrassed about if that is how you honestly feel. I, too, feel withered and drained. It’s what this year has done to us all. Not just the year, to say, but everything that has happened this year so far. Some of us can’t leave our house yet because of the scare reports of COVID-19. If it’s not that, it’s because we are too afraid to step out because of the rioters. Those who don’t have riots have to face either severe weather brought on by Hurricanes or risk being burned by wildfires being set by people who want to cause destruction and chaos… Maybe I shouldn’t say that because Mark Zuckerburg and the rest of Facebook might be paying attention (https://www.axios.com/facebook-false-fire-rumors-keep-spreading-despite-ban-a014ee1c-8bd7-4fe1-a644-928f2a580e19.html).

Let us begin tonight with the douchebaggery that seems to be pouring out of the lame-stream media outlets like it’s warm chocolate covering the graham cracker and caramel goodness about to be put into a refrigerator to be consumed as sweet delicacies at a later time. You can take this “news”, if you will, and let it dissolve in your mouth and mind as food for thought or you can feed it to the swine in Ma and Pa Kettles’ back forty to help fatten them up in the Winter season just in time for the spring butchering. It’s getting to easy to see and point out what all is going wrong right now without having to put any blame on President Trump like so many people do every single day. It’s the easy thing to do and it leaves no actual reason or fact on why a person believes that other than simply because it’s what their friends, family, or social kliq does. Well except New Jersey, you guys keep doing what you want and just stay out of the way. Just so you know, those folks are stuck on the Goodyear Blimp disguised as Unidentified Flying Objects, decorated with lights, sounds, and all the fixin’s (https://www.insider.com/ufo-sighting-goodyear-blimp-in-new-jersey-2020-9).

If we took the news at face value, then we would all lose faith in our lives. If we believed the mainstream news 100% fully, we won’t have the need for things like logic, common sense, free thinking and opinions, along with the ability to self govern. We already see it happening now and it’s resulting in people doing harmful things to each other in the name of “social injustice”. Riots and demonstrations, people are setting fires all along the west coast states (https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/sources-series-of-wildfires-may-be-coordinated-and-planned-attack/), and repeated stories about people getting abused or shot by cops. Sometimes we get the reports of those who protect and serve our communities getting ambushed and shot in acts of cowardice by people who believe the kool-aid sprayed out by the mainstream media. It’s getting so bad lately that it seems like these people are taking the mush intravenously and regurgitating it back to their friends. These people are doing the opposite of what “free will” is and they don’t see it. I can’t help but think God is shaking his head while rolling his eyes at everything going on right now.

Speaking of God, I’m not sure if what I am going to say is very christian of me, but I think politics needs to stay out of church and vice versa. We have the idea of having separation of church and state, which is very important (https://www.britannica.com/topic/Christianity/Separation-of-church-and-state). Beginning in the late 18th century, as implied in the Constitution of the United States, supported by a tendency to leave to the church, set free from state supervision, a maximum freedom in the realization of its spiritual, moral, and educational tasks. For example, a comprehensive church school and educational system has been created by the churches on the basis of this freedom, and numerous colleges and universities have been founded by churches. Thus producing results in the form of tax privileges of the church (exemption from most taxation), the exemption of the clergy from military service, and the financial furtherance of confessional school and educational systems through the state. Over the years, these privileges have been questioned and even attacked by certain segments of the American public as a result of actions taken by some churches. Now we might be seeing another issue rising its ugly head up over the hill from behind the shadows as more church leaders and pastors are showing their support while encouraging their congregation to support very controversial social political activist groups such as Black Lives Matter (https://www.christianpost.com/news/ex-ministries-founder-warns-black-lives-matter-movement-cannot-be-separated-from-organization.html).

For example, in my home state of Oklahoma, there are multiple churches in Tulsa now have the words “Black Lives Matter” painted nearby. The yellow letters can be found in several parking lots. The painting process started this past Monday evening when supporters first started painting at All Souls Unitarian Church (https://www.fox23.com/news/local/black-lives-matter-mural-message-spreads-church-parking-lots/DBVTAPJMZNBGBLWT3VYNEWXT7Y/). The activist who started put it all together says a lot of people were disappointed when the City of Tulsa made the decision to have it removed, adding the most recent murals are now on private property. But that’s not the only thing churches are allowing or even suggesting their congregation to do. Pastors / religious leaders who bend their knee or make the suggestion to their congregation to do so for any reason other than God do not deserve their title nor should their church be allowed the tax-exempt status. However, if these churches are joining forces with Black Lives Matter, I just hope they work out a deal to where the their property doesn’t get vandalized by what the mainstream media calls, the “Protesters”.

On the bright side of the riots, demonstrators who can’t get enough attention from law enforcement and media are getting extra love as a Pennsylvania judge threw the book at a dozen of assclowns by setting their bail at $1 million each for allegedly rioting in the wake of the police shooting of a knife-wielding man (https://www.foxnews.com/us/lancaster-protesters-bail-alleged-riots?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A%20foxnews%2Fnational%20%28Internal%20-%20US%20Latest%20-%20Text%29). This past Monday around 3am, Lancaster, Pennsylvania police nabbed a dozen people and one juvenile for staging the riots that culminated in police deploying tear gas at the crowd. The overnight violence came on the heels of the death of a mentally ill 27-year-old who was seen on body cam footage charging at a cop with a knife in hand. The officer shot and killed the man outside his mother’s house in downtown Lancaster. The mob of twelve adults marched from the scene of the shooting on Laurel Street to the police station, chucking glass bottles, rocks, brick, gallon jugs filled with liquid and plastic road barricades at cops, police said. A county vehicle parked in front of the station was also damaged. The mob now face a slew of felony and misdemeanor charges, including arson, riot, institutional vandalism and criminal conspiracy. A 16-year-old boy was also busted on riot, disorderly conduct, possession of instruments of crime, possession of a small amount of marijuana, propulsion of missiles onto a roadway and institutional vandalism.

Want to hear another positive story? Remember those two Los Angeles Sheriff Deputy’s that got ambushed this past weekend in their vehicle while sitting outside of a building? Well someone set up one of those “GoFundMe” accounts and it is bursting at the seams with supporters donating money to help those two fine officers. Supporters raised more than $574,969 and counting! In just the first 24 hours, it has amassed more than $315,000 in donations (https://www.gofundme.com/f/back-the-bear). The reward for helping to locate the gunman responsible rose to $200,000. The two officers – one, a 31-year-old woman, the other a 24-year-old man had been shot multiple times as they sat inside their patrol car outside the Metro Blue Line station on last Saturday night by a black male suspect who then fled the scene. A massive manhunt is now underway for the hooded gunman, who’s said to be between the ages of 28 and 30. Even better news is that one of them finally got to go home yesterday afternoon, even though he has a long road to recovery. (https://fox5sandiego.com/news/california-news/deputy-shot-in-la-ambush-released-from-hospital/). Please keep them BOTH in your prayers!

Something else that I find funny is when these rich celebrity muckety mucks run their mouth about how “tough it is being…” this way or that. In this case, enter Basketball celebrity, LeBron James. Here’s a guy who lives in a mega-million dollar home in the richest part of California who gets paid a rediculous amount of money for a few hours of work on a basketball court claimed that “Being Black in America is tough” (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2017/05/31/being-black-in-america-is-tough-lebron-james-responds-to-racist-vandalism-incident/). Since then, he has been very vocal about police shootings that involve black people and showing his support for the Black Lives Matter movement on the court. Last month, he said that “I know people get tired of hearing me say it but we are scared as a Black people in America. Black people in America are terrified” (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lebron-james-la-sheriff-challenge-reward-money-ambushed-deputies/). Well, earlier this week, he was asked to put his money where his mouth by Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. The Sheriff has challenged NBA star LeBron James to match and double the reward money being offered for information on the gunman who ambushed and shot two deputies last weekend. The Sheriff said the reward money reached $175,000, a combination of donations of $100,000 from the county and $75,000 from two private individuals. In a radio interview, he said “This challenge is to Lebron James. I want you to match that and double that reward,” said the Sheriff. “I know you care about law enforcement. You expressed a very interesting statement about your perspective on race relations and on officer-involved shootings and the impact that it has on the African-American community. And I appreciated that,” he continued. “But likewise, we need to appreciate that respect for life goes across all professions”  (https://www.kabc.com/2020/09/14/los-angeles-county-sheriff-villanueva-challenges-lebron-james-to-match-reward-money-in-search-for-shooter-of-sheriffs-deputies/). So far, there hasn’t been a response from LeBron James. I mean, what’s $175,000 dollars to him? It’s like pocket change to him, so why be so hesitant? In reality, looks bad on him portraying that he would rather be part of the problem than to help solve it, in my humble opinion.

Speaking of opinions and people running their mouths. COVID-19 seems to be a hot topic (still) and it won’t go away like a bad rash in the middle of the most humid part of the summer. I don’t know about you, but too many talking heads on social media who think they are medical doctors, experts on law, and political scientists are crawling out of the woodwork to make a point that OUR current President, Donald J. Trump, is or has lied about the truth of COVID-19 outbreak back in the beginning simply by his downplaying the situation. I hate to break it folks, but that is what a good leader does. Imaging something bad happening at your job and would you think your boss or supervisor would come tell you about it? No, that person, if they were a responsible person, would ask you to please vacate the premises or go outside for your own safety. Granted if it was a bad enough situation that demanded you should know if it was a specific threat to you, then I’m sure that person would tell you. However, in this case, no one knew the whole story because China didn’t voluntarily divulge the information to the public. In fact, we are still waiting on the truth, but you and I both know it won’t ever come willingly. So let me get this off my chest because  This is the greatest thing since having your one of two sex-identifying organs caught in a zipper when the fire alarm starts sounding off in the middle of a Tornado warning.

Let me point three things out that some people seem to overlook or “forget”:

  1. Nancy Pelosi, herself, promoted going into Chinatown back after COVID-19 came out in the news. She, herself, claimed there was “nothing to fear and we should go on like business as usual” (February 24, 2020 @ https://youtu.be/2SKy8XAn5MQ).
  2. Nancy Pelosi, among a few other high-ranking congress members, had access to the same information as President Trump about everything. She knows it, I know it, and the good Lord knows it. She is third in line to be president and she’s really not that good playing dumb. So technically, she is guilty of spreading this “lie” as the over-opinionated news media.
  3. For people who claim they don’t want to create division, but still use the phrases “Your President” and who still prefer to call the people causing riots, “Protesters”, YOUR actions are just as guilty at dividing people as BLM, Antifa, and any other extreme group. If you are an American Citizen, President Trump is your President, rather you voted for him or not. That’s why we have elections every so often so we can vote on who we think will help lead our country. The United States Government is of the people, by the people, for the people. Riots and demonstrations are not peaceful, but voting is.

Stop being part of the problem. If you are going to fight all the way to the election on November 3rd, what are you going to do after your actions cause him get re-elected? If you can present an actual case with valid facts / proof that this guy has done any wrong doing, I’d be happy to hear you out, but as long as you play with people via media, destroy property and livelihood, and hurt innocent people, Karma / whatever God of love and peace that you believe in is going to get you. Bad things are going to happen to people who do bad. If you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. That goes for those who are “woke”, “anti-president”, “agendas”, and the all out stupid people who believe in the double-standard. If you honestly think living with President Trump is a tyranny, I can’t wait to see what you will do when Mike Pense (a man of Godly faith) is running this country and he tells Nancy Pelosi she can’t be Vice President. She’ll learn that the special high-dollar ice cream she eats will taste the same in the White House as it does in an outhouse.

While we’re on the topic of elected officials, here’s something that might make your head spin in go “Wha?!…” A transgender woman who describes herself as a ‘Satanic anarchist’ has won the Republican Party nomination for sheriff in a New Hampshire county after running on a platform of “F*** the police” (https://www.insidesources.com/transsexual-satanist-anarchist-is-gop-sheriff-nominee-in-cheshire-county/). Aria DiMezzo, a transgender woman who describes herself as an anarchist and a high priestess of the Reformed Satanic Church, won the Republican nomination for sheriff of Cheshire County, New Hampshire. “I can’t imagine they’re happy about this,” Aria DiMezzo when asked about the reaction from Republicans. Aria DiMezzo captured the GOP nomination for Cheshire County sheriff after running unopposed in the party primary and won despite the fact of not getting the support from the county or state GOP. Aia DiMezzo won after running on a platform that backs decriminalizing drugs, sex work, and illegal immigration. However, Aria DiMezzo will have an even more formidable task as she will face off against a four-term incumbent, the Democrat Eli Rivera.

Here’s another crashing blow to the heavily politicized COVID-19 “pandemic”: 75% of youths who died from COVID-19 had underlying health conditions. Three out of four young people who died from COVID-19 in the United States had underlying health conditions, according to data released Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The analysis of the 121 Americans age 21 and younger who died from the virus between February 12 and July 31 also revealed that 70% were aged 10 to 20 years, the agency said. The remainder, 20%, were children aged 1 to 9, and infants 1 year old and younger, 10%. Among the young people who died from the virus, 45% were Hispanic American, 29% were Black American and 4% were American Indians or Alaska Natives, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6937e4.htm?s_cid=mm6937e4_w).

“Adolescents and young adults, Hispanic, Black, and American Indian or Alaska Native persons and persons with underlying medical conditions are disproportionately represented among deaths associated with [COVID-19] in persons aged less than 21 years,” the CDC said in the published report released this past Tuesday. “Infants, children, adolescents and young adults, particularly those from racial and ethnic minority groups at higher risk, those with underlying medical conditions and their caregivers, need clear, consistent and developmentally, linguistically and culturally appropriate COVID-19 prevention messages,” they admitted. Since the start of the pandemic in January, children and young adults have been thought to be less susceptible to serious illness and death from COVID-19.

Through the end of July, just 8%, or slightly fewer than 400,000, of all confirmed cases of the virus in the United States involved people age 21 and younger, according to the CDC. Young people in this age group account for 26% of the total U.S. population. Although 25% of the young people who died from COVID-19 and related complications previously were healthy, the remainder had a history of underlying health problems. These health problems include asthma, 28%; obesity, 27%; neurological and developmental disorders, 22%; and cardiovascular conditions, 18%, according to the CDC. Careful monitoring of [COVID-19] infections, “deaths and other severe outcomes among persons aged less than 21 years remains particularly important as schools reopen in the United States,” the agency researchers wrote.

Oh, and let’s not forget to mention, as if that’s not bad enough along with the rest of 2020 on our teenagers, there’s a growing body of research suggests that how popular you are in adolescence has a link with psychological and physical health decades later. Thirteen-year-olds who weren’t very popular with their peers growing up seem to have a heightened risk of developing circulatory system disease in later life, a new study has found (https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/15/health/teens-heart-health-popularity-wellness). This includes higher risk for conditions such as narrowed and hardened arteries and abnormal heartbeat that affect the normal functioning of the heart and blood vessels, according to psychology and neuroscience researchers at the University of North Carolina. The authors of the study said that it’s important to note that peer status is a specific form of popularity, likeability rather than being the cool kid. Peer status is rather an indicator of likability, and the degree to which a child is accepted and respected by their peers. Chronic health problems are usually explained by genetic factors or actions like smoking, drinking or an unhealthy diet, but research has suggested that high-quality relationships are a key indicator of mortality.

Ladies and gentlemen, what I laid out before you this evening can be confused for a fan-fictional-made “B-Rated” movie version of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073629/) written by a meth-headed junkie who’s sole desire wants to be Kamala Harris that is addicted to sniffing President Donald Trump’s shoes. All these stories are from the past seven days. I can’t make this up and if Hollywood wants the rights to this, then I have two words for them: “Call Me!” If I was an extraterrestrial visitor, first of all, I would avoid New Jersey all together. Forget New York. However, I would visit California, Oregon, and Washington just to get the folks out of there who are surrounded by the horrific fires that may or may not be intentionally set. Come on, those fuel cans didn’t just magically appear out in the woods by themselves, did they? Or was it space aliens who set those fires? Either way, if I was one of them coming off a long trip from Pluto, then I would just stay on the bypass and head for Venus. There seems to be more intelligent live on Venus at the moment and no one seems to want to talk about that (https://earthsky.org/space/life-on-venus-phosphine-biosignatures). Sad too. In closing, please keep the folks in our Law Enforcement, Military, First Responders, and those affected by the fires and hurricanes in your prayers. They need it and stay strong. We are almost there, so hold the line, and keep the faith!

First and foremost, how are you doing? Are you faring well in the stormy waters of 2020? If I was a pirate, I wouldn’t dip a toe into the troubling waters, but since we are all neck deep into it and can’t seem to turn back to shore, it’s like we are sailing toward a destination that isn’t charted on any map that I can find. Honestly, I do pretty good seeing the destination, be it many different routes or the end result using many methods / techniques. It’s an ability I pride myself having because it helps me achieve my goals and allows me to create contingency plans should something suddenly pop up that could conflict with what I want to achieve. I guess you could say it’s my sixth sense, almost like predicting the best possible outcomes of any situation that I am involved with. However, this year, I’m having trouble seeing a wide range of other areas that I normally can see. Unfortunately, I can’t see a large amount of outcomes that we are heading toward. If at best, only three options: Revolution, Civil War II, or barely scathing through to see the light of the first day of 2021. In no possible outcome do I see us not getting bruised, while some of us are already getting bloody. In either outcome, we will need the amazing grace of God to help us through.

It’s a long hard topic I want to share with you, but only if your mindset is okay. Tonight I want to talk to you about something that’s probably going to make you feel uncomfortable. I know it’s going to make me feel a bit uncomfortable to but it’s a conversation that needs to be done. They say that the most uncomfortable conversations can be the most beneficial once everything is laid out on the line. I know that we’ve all lost people in our lives who meant a lot to each of us. In the COVID-19 era, it seems like it’s one right after the other according to the news. Even though the CDC has come out recently it said that only 6% out of everyone who has died only had covid-19 and nothing else (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm). The mainstream media seems to forget about all that since all they want to talk about is the death toll of accumulated deaths, meaning no matter what was the cause of death, they also “had” COVID-19. They do that intentionally because it’s all about ratings by create a scare to keep you watching and possibly for some political motive. It is my belief that the current state of the mainstream media, itself, is a Cancer and it’s not something that needs to be watched specially during these times.

It is possible that the 24/7 news coverage of these unprecedented events could serve as an additional stressor, especially for individuals with preexisting mental health problems (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/2764584). Our routines have been completely upended and even things like wearing a mask or waiting in lines at the grocery store can make you feel tense. With all the natural disasters we’ve seen happen or happening along with the violent demonstrations in the bigger cities across the nation, and the agenda being fueled by propaganda of political bias, it’s mixed about and resulting in another kind of infection or disease that people don’t normally talk about until it’s too late and by too late I mean by the person’s own actions he or she is gone. Since today is World Suicide Prevention Day (https://www.iasp.info/wspd2020/), I would like to bring to you attention the what, in my opinion, should be called a Twin-demic. In other words, we actually should be acknowledging the fact that there are two different, but related pandemics going on simultaneously: COVID-19 and Suicide. We already have COVID-19 pounded on us daily, but tonight I want to talk to you about suicide because I think no one is really talking about the depression leading to it during this whole horrible pandemic. There are many factors that would lead to depression and that would lead one to believe there is absolutely without any shadow of a doubt any hope a brighter tomorrow. Truth be told if that person had someone that could reach out to or someone that was there with them to remind them that tomorrow is a new day, tomorrow something special will happen, actually just Comfort them somehow, maybe then they would actually see and still be around.

It doesn’t help that it’s a political year, all these negative ads and mudslinging it with constant bickering between two or more ideologies, it looks like the country is about to fall into another civil war. Honestly it doesn’t look like our teenagers have much to look forward to once they graduate high school or college. And who could blame them because with please organizations that are pushing their agendas against another group or faction is leaving the innocent people in harm’s way. I remember growing up being asked what I would want to be for when I grew up and I remember some of my friends saying they want to become an engineer, a police officer, the fireman, doctor, or join the military. Nowadays I’m not so sure that would be the same if we grew up during this era. Something tells me that if I grew up in this time, I would still want to be a rock star, wrestler, or radio DJ. My feeling is that most kids now see how the cops are treated or portrayed as killers and they don’t want any part of that. Honestly, if you hear a child say they want to become the next Jeffrey Dahmer when they grow up, as a parent, you should seek help for that kid pronto (https://www.biography.com/crime-figure/jeffrey-dahmer). Although I would be shocked to find out if a child knew what I was talking about when I mention his name because most kids probably won’t know who he and the monster that he was.

Another type of monster that could end up eating you alive from the inside out is Depression. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, you may experience anxiety, fear, frustration, sadness and loneliness to the point that those feelings become constant and overwhelming. Existing mental health conditions, including severe anxiety and major depression, may worsen. Most often, suicidal thoughts are the result of feeling like you can’t cope or recover when you’re faced with what seems to be an overwhelming life situation. There’s little data yet on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the suicide rate. But clearly the pandemic has added intense emotional and mental stress to the lives of people around the world. Fear, anxiety and depression can stem from a wide range of concerns and experiences, from personal and family issues to work-related stress. Whether you’re having thoughts of suicide or know someone who feels suicidal, learn suicide warning signs and how to reach out for immediate help and professional treatment. You may save a life — your own or someone else’s. Suicide warning signs or suicidal thoughts include:

    • Talking about suicide: for example, making statements such as “I’m going to kill myself” or “I wish I were dead.”
    • Getting the means to take your own life, such as buying a gun or stockpiling pills.
    • Withdrawing contact with others more than usual, even though staying at home may be recommended during the COVID-19 pandemic: for example, not responding to any type of communication from others, such as calls, texts or other messages.
    • Having mood swings, such as being emotionally high one day and deeply discouraged the next.
    • Being preoccupied with death, dying or violence.
    • Feeling trapped or hopeless about a situation (being “stuck”).
    • Excessively using alcohol or drugs.
    • Changing your normal routine, including eating or sleeping patterns.
    • Doing risky or self-destructive things, such as using drugs or driving recklessly.
    • Giving away belongings or getting affairs in order when there’s no other need to do so.
    • Saying goodbye to people as if they won’t be seen again.
    • Developing personality changes or being severely anxious or agitated.

The unique circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, including little social interaction, may make it more challenging to identify those at risk of suicide. Warning signs aren’t always obvious, and they may vary from person to person. Some people make their intentions clear, while others keep suicidal thoughts and feelings secret.

Although many people in the United States are slowly getting back to their lives prior to COVID-19, the lingering mental and emotional toils of the coronavirus pandemic look like they are here to stay for the foreseeable future. Add in scenes of police brutality and civil unrest being played out on the media on a daily basis, and mental stress and anxiety become front and center. Given this confluence of stressors, the mental health of many Americans is becoming a major concern as we adapt to absorb the psychological impact of these major events. Back in May 2020, new data showed that one-third of U.S adults have reported symptoms of clinical anxiety and depression related to this public health crisis (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/covid19/pulse/mental-health.htm). That information showed an increased rate of clinical anxiety and clinical depression that could lead to another major crisis if we don’t take clear steps to prevent what is referred to as a national suicide crisis. Many mental health professionals are concerned that suicide rates will greatly increase depending on how Americans are dealing with the devastation of all that is happening. It doesn’t help that suicide rates had actually been on the rise. In fact, in 2020 alone, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that suicide deaths among those ages 16 to 64 had increased to 35% in less than two decades.

So no, this sort of thing isn’t new. In fact, it is a public health crisis that has plagued America for quite some time. However, there are new factors related to the pandemic and subsequent crises that could potentially contribute to a further increase in the rate of suicides such as:

  • Increased social isolation and loneliness
  • Skyrocketing rates of unemployment and the economic downturn (recessions are historically associated with increased rates of suicide)
  • Mass grief, especially without funerals and other similar rites
  • Trauma and trauma triggers for communities of color
  • Widening of the net of groups at-risk for mental health conditions
  • Possible neurological “long haul” implications of COVID-19

Suicide is not a national problem but now is the time for us to educate at least ourselves, if not those around us, on important signs to look for in loved ones who may have suicidal feelings and how to offer effective support. Those conditions include symptoms of anxiety, depression and increased substance use to cope with stress or emotions related to COVID-19. Nearly 11% reported having seriously considered suicide in the 30 days before completing the survey compared with about 4% in a 2018 survey who said they’d considered suicide in the past 12 months. The CDC data found that certain groups were shown to be even more susceptible to suicide: 25.5% of young adults, aged 18 to 24; 30.7% of self-reported unpaid caregivers for adults; 21.7% of essential workers; as well as racial minorities —18.6% of Hispanic respondents and 15.1% of Black respondents. In a survey of 5,412 adults in late June, 40.9% reported at least one adverse mental or behavioral health condition, the CDC said in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report released on August 14th (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6932a1.htm?s_cid=mm6932a1_w). Again, with everything going on, is it not a wonder why mental health issues have increased considerably during the coronavirus pandemic? According to another recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, young adults and racial minorities are among those disproportionately affected.

Teen suicide was already on the rise before COVID-19 and the social distancing that comes with it (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db352-h.pdf). The data is still being collected, but researchers already predicts suicide attempts could be double pre-coronavirus numbers. They are recommending that parents to look for big behavior changes such as considerable mood swings, changes in eating or sleeping patterns that last longer than a couple of weeks, and refusal to engage with family and friends. When you start to think that there is something going on, it’s time to reach out for help. Researchers suggests not to assume it’s a phase and that is when you should call your family doctor. Make sure they’re getting fresh air and sunshine and time with friends. Often, mindfulness is centered around breathing but there are mindfulness games kids can play. If your child is expressing suicidal thoughts, it’s important to seek emergency care immediately. If you are concerned that your child may be suicidal, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/) at 1-800-273-8255 or call 911 if there is an emergency.

In the past decade suicide attempts have become more lethal. Some researchers have looked into the connection between these lethality rates and social media, internet use, and availability of guns. According to one study the case fatality rate by firearms is 82.5 percent; cutting, on the other hand, is 1.2 percent. So, it was especially concerning to psychiatrists and other suicide researchers when they saw the news about the surge in gun sales since March of this year (https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/nics_firearm_checks_-_month_year.pdf/view). Here’s where things get more interesting because certain populations are more at risk for potential suicidal thoughts, according to the New England Journal of Medicine (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2008017). This statistic includes people who have contracted COVID-19, those with preexisting conditions/immuno-compromised individuals, and those with histories of substances abuse. Younger people, Latino and Black populations are the most vulnerable right now, data shows (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6932a1.htm). The rates of those reported having seriously considered suicide in the 30 days before the June CDC survey are higher among those between ages 18-24 (25.5%), essential workers (21.7%), and minority racial/ethnic groups (18.6% Hispanic, 15.1% non-Hispanic Black). Another population of concern are the elderly, many of whom find themselves in nursing homes or assisted-living facilities nationwide.

According to the statistics released earlier this year by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it show that females working in the construction and extraction had the highest suicide rate amongst working 16- to 64-year-old females in the United States at 25.5 suicides per 100,000 population, based on 2016 study. In the same year, the Educational Services occupation had a lower suicide rate among females of 3.9 per 100,000 population (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6903a1.htm?s_cid=mm6903a1_w). Men, on the other hand, working in Mining, Quarrying, And Oil and Gas Extraction had a 54.2 suicides per 100,000 population with the lowest being in Educational Services with a 9.3 suicide rate per 100,000 population. The total suicide rate among all men was 27.4 individuals per 100,000 people. The numbers change a bit each year when you look at the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics as they claim that average number of suicides in the workplace range from 250 in 2011 up to 304 in 2019 (https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/cfoi.pdf).

Social media has been used to livestream several heart-wrenching suicides believed to be linked to the toll COVID-19 is taking on individuals. This week, parents are being urged to monitor their children and teens’ use of TikTok and other social media platforms following reports of an extremely graphic video of the suicide death of 33-year-old US Army veteran, Ronnie McNutt, who shot himself during a live-stream on Facebook recently (https://heavy.com/news/2020/09/ronnie-mcnutt-facebook-video/). It’s not for certain as to what led up to the man taking his own life with a shotgun on facebook live, but I’ve read several reports that all point to his girlfriend leaving him and he lost his job. It’s rumored that his mother was the last person to call and argue with him before pulling the trigger. I don’t know anything for sure, it’s all speculation and it’s none of my business. However, it hurts me to know that one of our former soldiers did this to himself and since I can relate to both of those things, getting terminated from a job that you are really good at and losing a girlfriend you really care about only to find out the feelings weren’t mutual. With all the help that is available out there and yeah, I understand that it’s only there if people want to receive it. Still, I think if someone was there with him to talk him down, it might have been a much different outcome.

Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is estimated being responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds. Every life lost represents someone’s partner, child, parent, friend or colleague. For each suicide approximately 135 people suffer intense grief or are otherwise affected. This amounts to 108 million people per year who are profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviour. Suicidal behaviour includes suicide, and also encompases suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. For every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide. Suicide is the result of a convergence of genetic, psychological, social and cultural and other risk factors, sometimes combined with experiences of trauma and loss. People who take their own lives represent a heterogeneous group, with unique, complex and multifaceted causal influences preceding their final act. Such heterogeneity presents challenges for suicide prevention experts. These challenges can be overcome by adopting a multilevel and cohesive approach to suicide prevention.

There is so much help out there for people who want or need to talk to someone about what they may be feeling. I know that this all might sound like an infomercial you see or hear on TV in the middle of the night when nothing else is on. I just want make sure you know your options and that there are people who genuinely love you. If you don’t want to discuss things with your family members or friends, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or text the Crisis Text Line (text HELLO to 741741). Both services are free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The deaf and hard of hearing can contact the Lifeline via TTY at 1-800-799-4889. All calls are confidential. The Veterans Crisis Line connects Service members and Veterans in crisis, as well as their family members and friends, with qualified, caring Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) responders through a confidential toll-free hotline, online chat, or text messaging service. Dial 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1 to talk to someone or send a text message to 838255 to connect with a VA responder.     So tonight, at some point before you go to bed, take a moment to reach out to someone you think needs help to change the course of their life. Be sincere when asking how are they doing and be there with both ears listening to every word they say because the words they say and how they say it could be the literal difference between life and death. Another thing you might want to do is light a candle near a window to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember a lost loved one, and to show support for survivors of suicide. I believe that we are all part of a grander plan, even though we may not know what that plan is, what part we play, or for how long we participate, we need to be there for those who are in real trouble under the skin. Remember, just because you don’t see it or the person smiles and seems happy all the time doesn’t mean they’ve got nothing going on underneath.
